PUBLIC MEETING FRIDAY 15 JANUARY AT 7.30PM:
FUTURE OF THE HOLYWELL MEAD POOL COMPLEX

You may have read about Wycombe District Council's current consultation on the future of the Holywell Mead Pool Complex. This consultation process opened on 23rd November, 2009 and is due to close on 22nd January, 2010. You can find details on the Council's website at:

http://www.wycombe.gov.uk/council-services/leisure-and-culture/sports/sports-facilities/holywell-mead.aspx

There is also a questionnaire for you to fill in, either on-line or as a printed version.

To quote from the website:

"What would you like to do at Holywell Mead? The Council wants to see the complex reopened as a leisure facility. The challenge is to make the mix of leisure activities exciting enough to make this a well used service that operates at no cost to you, the Council taxpayer, with, hopefully, all year round programmes to make Holywell Mead a vibrant attraction for all."

With the news that the Environment Centre is unable to continue operation beyond Easter, the Environment Centre building is now also included in this consultation.

Elaine Jewell, the Head of the Council's Community Services, addressed a public meeting arranged by the High Wycombe Society, on Friday, 15th January, when she explained the scope and purpose of the consultation. This was followed by a general discussion.

The overwhelming view of those at the meeting was to have an enhanced outdoor swimming pool, although this is not presently an option being considered by the Council. Another concern was that any facility should stay within the current footprint.

The meeting was attended by the Bucks Free Press and a report can be found on their Web site here.
