a report on our 2008 AGM including reports from the Society's groups.

a brief report on the County Council's Transport Symposium in February and on correspondence with the County over the Society's proposal to re-open the High Wycombe-Bourne End railway line for ultra-light transport.

a historical article by David Snoxell on the approaches to Wycombe Abbey since 1750.

an account by John Gore of a talk arranged by the Marlow Society on the history of the Royal Military College in High Wycombe and Marlow.

an obituary by Annie Woodward to member Pauline Cauvain, local historian and archaeologist.

All this is in addition to the usual piece on "Planning this Quarter" by Tony Fooks.

  • The High Wycombe Society Newsletter is published four times a year and is usually 12 pp long.  It is issued free to members.  Six months after each newsletter is issued, it is posted in full in the archive on this website.

  • Our print deadline is on the 20th of February, May, August and November, and the Newsletter is distributed by our volunteer postmen the following month.

  • The Newsletter covers the work of all the Society's groups, the quarterly meetings and other events. The front page comments on a matter of local interest and there is usually also a letters page.

  • We are always looking for contributions to the Newsletter. We need articles, for example from people who remember Wycombe in its earlier days, or with a novel angle on local matters. We need letters with outspoken comment, which we welcome from anybody. And we particularly like to receive drawings and cartoons.

Please send all contributions to our Newsletter Editor, Chris Woodman, at 29 Maybrook Gardens, High Wycombe, HP13 6PJ, telephone (01494) 528106, or e-mail your material direct.
