The first of three special 2015 Rye-related events has its Offical Opening on the morning of Wednesday 3rd June. Join us at an Exhibition entitled “Celebrating the Rye” which depicts the Rye in words and historic photographs. It has been compiled by a small team of High Wycombe Society members led by Mary Woodman, and will be open daily from 2nd-13th June only.
50 years ago this precious open-space was threatened by plans for a road development. Campaigners fought to preserve the Open Space, taking their battle eventually to a joint committee of the House of Commons and House of Lords. This is an important episode in our Society’s pre-history as, after this success, many went on to form the High Wycombe Society just three years later.
