The High Wycombe Society has its roots in the campaign to protect the Rye from development. It is a charitable organisation that is dedicated to honouring the town’s rich heritage, enhancing its urban and natural landscapes, and preserving the historically significant Pann Mill, which was rescued from demolition. We are an active and friendly society with over 300 members.
Our working groups seek to shape the development of the town and environment for the benefit of all its residents. New group members are always welcome. Find out more on our volunteer page. We put on a varied events programme, and publish a quarterly newsletter and this website.
Our aims and objectives are set-out in our constitution. Practically our aims include:
- To encourage people to love and cherish the town of High Wycombe
- To preserve the towns buildings, monuments and the natural beauty of the Rye and Wye
- Preserving and maintaining Pann Mill, the last working mill on the River Wye through practical demonstrations and open days
- Encouraging good architecture and town planning by vigilant examination of proposals
- Criticising, discouraging and opposing the destruction of amenities, bad planning and poor design
- Co-operating with local authorities and organisations with similar aims – local, regional and national
- To influence and advise our community and organisations on issues within our expertise.
These aims are pursued through meetings, exhibitions, lectures, publications, visits, charitable projects, and schemes.
