Next Sunday, May 15th, at Pann Mill, the waterwheel will once again be turning as the Pann Mill Restoration team demonstrate the time-honoured method of grinding corn to make flour. There’s been corn milled on this site for over 900 years!
All are welcome to visit on our first Open Day of the year which is our contribution to National Mills Weekend. Step inside the mill to watch (and hear) the machinery in action. Climb upstairs to see the grain being loaded. Listen to our volunteer millers enthuse about their work throughout the year with millstones, sluice gates, wheels, belts and cogs.
If you think you might have what it takes to become a volunteer miller yourself, then please speak to one of the volunteers on the day. They like nothing more than the opportunity to share their enthusiasm and expertise.
It won’t just be the millers hard at work on the Open day. A number of stalls will be set up in the Pann Mill grounds. Alongside the freshly ground flour which is bagged up for sale while you wait, there’ll be books and bric-a-brac, cakes, plants and Bling – all at very reasonable prices with proceeds in aid of worthwhile causes. There’ll be opportunities to learn more about local organisations including Friends of the Earth, and the High Wycombe Town Twinning Association. There’s likely to be something for everyone. At 2.00 p.m. there’ll be an opportunity to join a guided Water Trail around the Rye but you may just prefer to relax in our garden with tea and cakes. Entry is free!!!
